Part of Evin Prison Hit by Missile Strike-By Journal- 23 June 2025

A group of political prisoners has announced in a statement:

“Today, Monday 2 Tir 1404 (22 June 2025), following an airstrike by Israeli fighter jets, parts of Evin Prison — including the infirmary, administrative offices, police unit, and judiciary wing — were severely damaged. Ward 4 collapsed, windows shattered, and due to the rush of prisoners to the lower floors to save their lives, several were injured.”

A missile and military strike against prisons — and in this case, Evin — under any pretext or justification, is a criminal act and constitutes a war crime.

The Israeli Minister of Defence has declared: “With unprecedented force, Israel is targeting the regime’s institutions of repression — including the Basij headquarters, Evin Prison, the ‘Countdown to Israel’s Destruction’ clock in Palestine Square, the IRGC’s internal security centre, ideological departments, and other regime facilities.”

We strongly condemn the endangerment of the lives of political prisoners — and prisoners in general — inside Evin.

The Israeli government must see and feel our anger: the anger of the people of Iran, and of all honourable people across the world.

The Islamic regime must immediately and unconditionally release all political prisoners. The lives of detainees across the Islamic Republic’s prisons are in serious danger.

We, the people — along with all anti-regime organisations, international bodies, and governments — must monitor every action of this murderous regime with a magnifying glass, to ensure that these killers never even contemplate harming political prisoners.

Here and now, we declare in a loud voice: If the bombings and missile strikes target homes, workplaces, clinics or residential areas, a massive wave of social protest will rise up against the Israeli state. The killing of civilians is a war crime — one that cannot and must not be excused.

At the same time, in nightly chants or any protests that emerge in the midst of this situation, we must demand with all our strength:

Freedom for all political prisoners.

This is not just a missile war.

The greater war is the people’s resistance to a war-mongering regime — a regime that has looted and destroyed the lives of Iranians.

The Islamic Republic must be destroyed.
