Ceasefire—Until the Next Incident-By Keyvan Javid- 24 June 2025

After Israel’s devastating attacks and the elimination of over 20 top military commanders of the Islamic regime, Iran’s skies were brought under control for 12 days. A wide-scale missile bombardment targeted underground military facilities, and following direct assaults on nuclear installations and military sites, even extending to American bases, the Islamic Republic—on the night of Monday 23 June—finally agreed to a ceasefire. Trump triumphantly declared that both sides had accepted the deal, which is now set to hold.

Although the Israeli military quickly accused the Islamic Republic of breaking the ceasefire—and the regime promptly denied any breach—there is a possibility that this could mark a turning point toward ending the missile strikes and aerial bombardments.

Israel, followed by the United States, achieved all its stated objectives over these past 12 days. The destruction—or near destruction—of the Islamic Republic’s nuclear infrastructure has been the central outcome of this operation.

The Islamic Republic, a defeated regime in tatters, now shelters its enfeebled leader in a maze of tunnels, devoid of the will or strength to show defiance. Despite suffering significant blows, the regime made sure, even during its retaliatory missile strike on the American base in Qatar, that all security protocols were observed and no blood was spilled. Trump even thanked them, noting they had warned of the attack beforehand.

Now, Trump says it’s time for reconciliation and a return to the negotiating table. But what are the demands? A total halt to uranium enrichment and the nuclear project. Once this is achieved, Israel, the US, and European governments will have reached their goals.

What remains for the Islamic Republic? A more spirited society that now knows the regime can’t even protect its own high-ranking political figures. A society burdened with economic and welfare demands. A society that now sees freedom as more attainable—and uniting for basic human rights as more possible than ever.

To facilitate this popular momentum, the time has come for social organisation—mobilisation under the banner of defending life, civility, and humanity.

And if all forms of political, professional, and social organising are to succeed, they cannot remain leaderless or unclear in direction. A political party is needed. The moment has come to make that choice—and the Worker-communist Party could be the right one. The question is: will the people embrace the Worker-communist Party and help it overcome the obstacles that have so far stood in its way to becoming the largest political force? Time will tell.
