When the IRGC Giant Turns into a Mouse -Keyvan Javid-4 July 2025

Afshon Ostovar, Iran analyst and author of Vanguard of the Imam: Religion, Politics, and Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, told Fox News: “What the IRGC has strived for over the past 25 years is essentially lost. Their campaign to build deterrence through missiles, nuclear enrichment, and regional proxy networks has effectively collapsed.”

The status of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as the military arm of the Islamic Republic is tied to the regime’s own political condition. No one in Iran today sees the Islamic Republic as a mighty force. Put a picture of Khamenei and the ruling elite in front of any passer-by—regardless of their profession, class, or personal beliefs—and they will resolutely say the Islamic Republic is a monster rapidly withering into a feeble, humiliated creature.

In response to this undeniable truth, the regime is taking brutal revenge on the people. The surge in executions and the shooting of unarmed civilians on the streets serve only one purpose: fabricating an illusion of dominance. We are witnessing a psychological war waged by the state against its own citizens. Against millions of politically vocal Iranians on social media who expose the regime’s repression to the world, this is a futile attempt to control society and project an image of invincibility.

Global analysts, reacting to political events in Iran, frequently engage in retrospective assessments rather than predictive ones. They often only skim the surface of political developments and draw conclusions such as Iran being an “Islamic society” whose people support the regime. Yet when they witness the immense force of mass uprisings—such as the Woman, Life, Freedom revolution—they move closer to a deeper truth: this society is rising to overthrow the Islamic Republic. The daily lives of ordinary people reflect a persistent desire for freedom and equality.

Over the past month, no further analysis has been necessary to grasp the fact that the monster of the Islamic Republic has turned into a mouse—its leader too cowardly to emerge from hiding. On the flip side of this weakened regime stands a public that has no doubt it will triumph. Each day, they stoke the flames of resistance and the fire of revolution burns brighter.
