On Saturday 7 Tir (28 June), at the state funeral parade for the regime’s commanders torn apart by Israeli drones and missiles, the ‘Supreme Leader’ was conspicuously absent. Though it’s been five days since Israel halted its attacks, Khamenei still hasn’t dared crawl out of his bunker to perform funeral prayers over his slain henchmen. In truth, he’s a walking corpse—a dead man clinging to a dying regime.
Years ago, this self-appointed “leader of the Muslim world” puffed out his chest and mocked US leaders after 9/11 for going into hiding. “We’re not like that,” he boasted. “If, God forbid, hardship comes upon our people, we’ll stand with them, ready to sacrifice ourselves.” Now, after dragging the country into war through reckless policies, he’s been buried in hiding for 17 days.
At the grotesque funeral event, Mohsen Rezaei absurdly claimed that during the 12-day war, “the Leader personally commanded our armed forces.” Meanwhile, Khamenei appeared in a video looking dishevelled, gaunt, anxious, and broken, congratulating the nation on its “victory over Israel and the US.” He even claimed the Islamic Republic had “slapped America hard.” But if that’s true, why hasn’t he emerged from his hole?
Khamenei once fantasised about making Tehran the epicentre of the Islamic world, leading Shia forces to conquer Karbala, Jerusalem, and even the White House. Now, he is a pitiful figure, reduced to hiding from the very people who gave rise to the revolution of “Woman, Life, Freedom” and are ready to finish what they started. A regime led by such a degraded figure cannot withstand the next revolutionary wave. The real battle—the final uprising of the people against the Islamic Republic—is yet to come.
