The Real Meaning of Negotiating with the US- By Asqar Karimi-1 july 2025

Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araqchi, told CBS News: “Tehran will only enter negotiations if it is assured that all US military strikes will cease during the talks. We are open to dialogue—but a negotiation in which the other side attacks us while talks are ongoing is more a show of force than a path toward resolution.”

Compare the Islamic Republic’s current stance on negotiations and relations with the US to its 46-year policy of “Death to America,” or Khamenei’s recent remark that negotiations are neither wise, intelligent, nor honourable. The depth of the regime’s desperation and political retreat becomes painfully clear. They are ready to negotiate—even now, when the US, in coordination with Israel, has attacked nuclear facilities and deeply humiliated the Supreme Leader. Khamenei is now politically dead. It no longer matters what he once said. We are ready to negotiate, but please, do not humiliate us so thoroughly that we are forced to feign dignity. Let us at least set some preconditions so that our forces do not feel they are marching towards surrender.

This is a regime that has lost in war and diplomacy, its “Axis of Resistance” has been crippled, it has forfeited its strategic stronghold of hijab and Islam, and it is paralysed economically—unable to meet the most basic needs of the population and facing the fury and hatred of an entire society. It now seeks to negotiate, to retreat, and yet still save face.

Araqchi also claimed: “The Iranian people will never relinquish their right to uranium enrichment.” The people? The Iranian people have had no role in the regime’s nuclear programme. This policy has only deepened their misery, poverty, inflation, and insecurity. They have repeatedly expressed their opposition to the Islamic Republic’s nuclear, missile, military and regional intervention policies, through protests and public statements. They want this regime gone—plain and simple.
Now more than ever, it must be stated clearly: nuclear or not, missiles or not, proxies or not—we are at war with only one entity: the Islamic government. Our battle is against a corrupt regime that has oppressed us for 46 years and imposed unspeakable deprivation. We seek neither negotiation nor ceasefire. Only struggle and revolution to bring it down. Not a word more. Not a word less.
