Jamil Alizadeh Shayiq, secretary of the national rice association, recently stated: “In our country, prices rise in a chain reaction. When one egg costs 6,000 tomans*—or even more—producers of rice, saffron, and other crops also raise their prices accordingly.”
And the regime’s solution? Let the Supreme Leader sit while his court preacher sings a patriotic anthem. Never mind if the lyrics awkwardly stitch together Ali, Islam, and the “precious soil” of Iran in a desperate attempt to win over both nationalists and Islamists. As long as the Islamic Republic survives—let the price of eggs keep rising, and the queues for the gallows grow ever longer.
It doesn’t matter if the internet is shut down, if dissenters are branded spies, or if draconian sentences are handed down to anyone who opposes the regime. What matters is that this government endures—to defend the “golden land” of Iran. The same gold that ends up in the personal bank accounts of the regime’s elites.
What does it matter if rice, bread, and eggs become unaffordable? Or if free and proper healthcare remains a distant dream for most Iranian families? Who cares if addiction ravages lives or prostitution preys on women—and even young girls?
When Iran and Iranian identity are invoked, we are expected to roll up our sleeves and “save the motherland” from the foreigners, never mind if those foreigners exist mostly in the imagination of the regime’s propaganda.
The Islamic Republic is now playing this exact game—hoping to mix the dormant virus of imperial nationalism with the venom of political Islam and serve it to the people as one final deceitful brew.
But this theocratic trickery has lost its colour. In today’s Iran, this charade fools no one. Khamenei, his inner circle, and what remains of the Revolutionary Guards know full well they cannot pacify a people hungry for equality and freedom with a national anthem.
Prices will keep climbing. Tables will grow barer. More patients will queue for death. More families will mourn.
Unless this path is broken.
With mass mobilisation and the building of a revolutionary command structure, we can rip out the roots of this regime and cast it into the blaze of revolution. That is why we come to the streets. That is why we have fought for years against this regime.
