Mohammad-Javad Larijani, a former senior judiciary official, declared: “Europeans will no longer be able to walk freely in their own countries. Soon, perhaps five drones will strike a European city.”

Terror, chaos, and fear have long served as weapons for Islamic extremists across Europe. The Islamic Republic, alongside affiliated terrorist movements—from Hezbollah to al-Qaeda to ISIS—has repeatedly used assassination and intimidation as tools of extortion against European governments and citizens.

Yet this marks the first time the regime has issued an official and open threat of organised terror against Europe through one of its own emissaries. The timing is no mystery: in recent weeks, Israeli strikes on Iran’s military installations and nuclear sites, as well as the killing of top commanders, have shaken the Islamic leadership. Meanwhile, the regime faces mounting pressure from three European governments threatening to trigger the “snapback” mechanism—restoring UN sanctions unless Tehran halts its nuclear programme.

These developments expose the regime’s deep internal crisis: a bankrupt economy on the brink of collapse; fractured political and military hierarchies riddled with intelligence leaks; and a society poised for widespread struggle in pursuit of dignity and economic survival. A vast swathe of Iranian society has turned decisively against political Islam, laying bare a profound and irreversible transformation.

In this context, the threat to attack European cities is a desperate attempt to force Western governments into submission: do not activate the snapback mechanism; do not sanction or boycott us; do not list the IRGC as a terrorist organisation—or else.

The critical question now is whether European governments will respond decisively. If they align with the Iranian people’s struggle, the tide could turn. A resolute stance by Europe would empower Iran’s democratic and anti-Islamist movement to dismantle the machinery of political terror—starting with the Islamic Republic itself.
