Argentina’s Inflation Cooled—But at the Cost of Austerity – Journal-19 July 2025

Reuters reported that Argentina’s monthly inflation in June is expected to reach 1.9%, up from 1.5% in May—the lowest monthly consumer price increase since 2020.

Right-wing analysts gleefully claim that this is the result of strict austerity policies and structural reforms implemented in recent months.

It’s now easier to understand that lowering inflation is not about public welfare. On the contrary, the Argentine right-wing government imposed severe economic hardship to tame inflation. Austerity is easy to understand: slashed healthcare coverage, frozen wages, deeper poverty and deprivation, no access to leisure, and poor nutrition.

That’s the full genius of today’s conventional capitalist society: looting the public purse while granting tax exemptions to the super-rich, all in the name of reviving a broken economy.

Is this the kind of society worth living in? Or should we imagine one built on equality, prosperity, and freedom? A society not for the profits of the ruling minority, but for the needs of all.

Through this ruthless capitalist lens, one can clearly anticipate what Iran’s right-wing political forces would do if they ever came to power. Capitalism has never worked in favour of human wellbeing. Just look at the lives of the billionaire one-percenters and compare them to the misery, poverty, and dictatorship suffered by the global majority. True human liberation is only possible by breaking free from wage slavery.
