According to UN figures, at least 612 people were executed in the first half of 2025 in Iran –more than double the number recorded over the same period in 2024.

Volker Türk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, has described the surge in executions as indicative of how “deeply disturbing the situation has become and the urgent need for an immediate moratorium in the country on the use of the death penalty.”

They are armed. They possess a multitude of institutions dedicated to the slaughter of the people. Their laws are codified to ensure their survival which depends on a constant cycle of executions – designed to prevent popular unity, to suppress the formation of organisations opposing poverty and inequality, and to crush trade unions and vast networks resisting the imposition of Islamic culture.

They command military and paramilitary forces and spend the bulk of society’s material resources on fortifying these institutions to stamp out street protests and strikes. They make the laws and enforce them. They run a state that organises poverty, misery, and plunder. They legislate against freedom of expression. They have built a vast arsenal to preserve their criminal rule by force, by bayonets, and by prisons. With these tools, they have carried out countless executions.

We, however, have yet to create the conditions to take up arms against the regime – to storm the barracks and military bases of the Revolutionary Guards and the Basij forces. We have not yet formed enough nationwide networks, committees, and structures to resist these killers. We still lack a national workers’ council. It is these absences that enable the enemy to strike our ranks with ease, to imprison our comrades, and to disperse our strikes and protests.

And yet, we remain a formidable force. Despite all the shortcomings in our organisation, we are the Islamic Republic’s worst nightmare. We have pushed the regime to the brink of collapse on several occasions through mass uprisings. We gave rise to a revolution as profound as ‘Woman, Life, Freedom’ – a movement born of extraordinary unity in thought and action, earning global respect and deepening the solidarity of the Iranian people.

With such strength and clarity in our struggle against the Islamic Republic, we can and must take another decisive step forward. We must build national organisations, associations, and councils. Victory is possible if we organise around equality, freedom, and human solidarity – and if we choose a party that embodies all these human aspirations.
