According to the Hengaw human rights organisation, in July 2025, at least 14 women were murdered in cities across Iran, most at the hands of relatives, including their husbands. The data shows that three women were killed by their husbands, two by former husbands, two by brothers-in-law, three by brothers, two by boyfriends, and one by an uncle. The killer of one victim has yet to be identified.
According to experts, some of the Islamic Republic’s medium-range ballistic missiles — the more advanced models — can cost more than $1m each to produce. Before the war, US intelligence agencies estimated that Iran produced around 50 missiles a month, but recent attacks have sharply reduced this capacity. Nevertheless, with time and funding, Tehran could return to that level.
People may not know the precise figures spent on manufacturing these weapons of death. But they do know this: the astronomical sums poured into military production could have funded infrastructure, healthcare and nutrition, or gone towards decent housing.
No trick of the Islamic Republic can convince people that the country’s problems stem from sanctions or Western mischief. The slogan “Our enemy is right here” has become the most popular in society. People have gone further still, rallying under a new demand: “Enriching life is our inalienable right.”
They have a deep understanding of the regime’s malicious aims and know exactly what the plunder of their lives funds. In this barren table the Islamic Republic has laid across society, almost everyone in Iran suffers. A country with vast natural resources could have been dedicated to the welfare of all.
If that has not happened, and the country is sinking deeper into economic crisis, the reason is simple — and everyone knows it: the root of the disaster is the Islamic Republic, a regime surviving only at gunpoint. This shared awareness must turn into collective action. Each of us can take an organised, united step towards the profound change needed. Organisation and party-building are the keys to victory over the regime. Trade unions, while acting independently, can and must unite to deliver the greatest possible political blow to the Islamic Republic.
