The spokesperson for the parliamentary National Security Commission, Ebrahim Rezaei, said regarding the possibility of another Israeli attack that nothing is certain, but the country must be prepared for war. He added: “No one should send a message of weakness abroad, because if the enemy thinks we are weak, it may attack us.”

The crucial point here is not the claim that “we must be ready for war”, but the suggestion that the regime should deceitfully pretend it is not weak. If the enemy merely “thinks” the Islamic Republic is weak, it may strike.

Politics has seen many forms of deception, but this one is remarkable. This supposed strategist imagines that the enemy listens closely to the words of the Islamic regime’s leaders to measure its strength. In truth, his one sentence exposes the regime’s predicament more eloquently than any analysis could. We must shout slogans: we will strike, we will kill, we will attack. We have missiles, we have regional forces, we have endless bluster—so that the enemy imagines we are strong.

Another Israeli strike on the Islamic Republic is highly likely. The collapse of its political and economic structures only increases the probability. Even the severe weakening of the regime’s regional proxies has roots inside the regime itself. If the Islamic Republic had not collapsed to such a desperate state—with people constantly confronting it in the streets—if its economy were stable, it could have flooded its proxies with money and bought more obedience.

When Netanyahu challenges the regime by simply holding a glass of water*, no one listens to the regime’s empty bravado. He is pointing directly to the regime’s crisis.

The course ahead could well lead to new military strikes against the Islamic Republic’s nuclear facilities. Whatever happens, the people look at Iran’s political situation with one aim: to overthrow the Islamic Republic, seize control of society, and build a humane government for a humane society.

* There is a severe water shortage in Iran. Netanyahu said they will help Iranians to gain clean water with Israeli technology after the fall of the Islamic regime.
