For the second time, Swedish humanist activist Greta Thunberg is setting sail with ships carrying humanitarian aid bound for Gaza, to break the siege of the territory. The organisers of the voyage say: “When the world is silent, we set sail.”

In this savage world of parasitic capitalists who massacre people for profit, starve them and plunge them into poverty—while propping up dictators—the sight of young humanists like Greta brings encouragement and hope.

Thunberg, 22, joined such a flotilla for the first time just over two months ago. The small vessel Madeleine, with 12 passengers from France, Turkey, Germany, Brazil, Sweden, Spain and the Netherlands, was intercepted 180 kilometres off Gaza’s coast by Israeli forces.

“This time is different,” Thunberg says. “The number of ships and people is greater, and there is a historic mobilisation.” Such determination to aid fellow human beings is profoundly inspiring. Humanity, with young people like Greta, endures, and gives us the hope that with struggle and solidarity we can tear down any wall, overcome any obstacle.

In this unequal world, where the majority are poor and the minority rich, and where national, religious and ethnic identities are imposed in place of human identity, a young woman and a host of humanists from across the globe have risen to organise united resistance against Israel’s genocidal regime. This opens a great window of hope towards building a better, more humane world.

We Iranians can be doubly hopeful: we can draw on this global solidarity to aid our struggle to overthrow the Islamic Republic, and afterwards, to help build a free, equal and humane society.
