On Wednesday, 25 September, defence lawyer Ramin Safarnia wrote on X that the death sentence against Mr Farahavar had been upheld by Branch 39 of the Supreme Court after his appeal was rejected, and that a petition for retrial would be submitted.
According to the human rights news agency HRANA, Peyman Farahavar was arrested in September 2024 and charged with baghi (armed rebellion) and moharebeh (waging war against God). A relative of the political prisoner said these charges were based on his songs and his activism for “social justice and civil rights”.
Our lives are in danger, not from aliens that we see in science fiction films, but at the hands of earthlings devoid of humanity. People who shed blood to plunder the lives of others, committing crimes without hesitation. We are slaughtered by those with human DNA, deprived of bread, freedom, welfare, healthcare, happiness, leisure – all the basic needs of human life. Our struggle against this injustice is answered with hot lead, prison and execution. Yet history shows that it is humanity and the fight for happiness that prevail, bringing the enemy to its knees. We must rise in defence of political prisoners and against executions. This is the path to victory. We must fight to save Peyman’s life.
