Twelve Days That Shook the Islamic Regime-By Keyvan Javid-29 June 2025

On the morning of Friday 23 Khordad, Tehran trembled. A series of powerful explosions jolted the city awake. In a matter of minutes, Israel wiped out a long line of senior military commanders of the Islamic Republic, executing a pre-planned operation with ruthless precision.

This was not just the regime’s greatest military loss—it was a shattering psychological blow. The Islamic Republic’s empty slogans about wiping Israel off the map evaporated before the eyes of the Iranian people and the world. A regime that had poured trillions into regional dominance and a nuclear arsenal, now could only manage to shuttle Khamenei into a hideout. There, deep underground, the “Commander-in-Chief” quaked, staring into a bleak and uncertain future.

In the initial days of Israel’s assault, as it seized full control of Iranian airspace, a wave of joy swept through the public. For many, it felt like retribution—for the killings, the poverty, the repression, the veiling laws, and the jailing of dissenters. When the US belatedly entered the conflict, bombing the regime’s nuclear sites, a ceasefire was declared—one the Islamic Republic accepted immediately.

Yet amid the fog of war, the daily struggles of ordinary people could not manifest in mass protests. The public was unprepared—politically and organisationally—for an uprising under such conditions. No psychological groundwork, no mass networks, no grassroots structures existed to coordinate a blow against the regime at this crucial moment. Crucially, Iranian society is still not mobilised behind any political party capable of setting a revolutionary direction.

But today, there is reason to hope. Society can rally around the same just and humane demands that fuelled the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement and strike at the regime at its weakest. The Islamic Republic stands friendless and encircled. Toppling this enfeebled regime is no longer a distant goal. The revolutionary infrastructure for victory must be built—urgently.
