According to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network, five individuals—Ali Ghasemi, Pejman Soltani, Kaveh Salehi, Rezgar Beygzadeh Babamiri, and Teyfour Salimi Babamiri—who were arrested during the ‘Woman, Life, Freedom’ uprising, have been sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court in Urmia [in the northwest of Iran].
The Islamic Republic is exacting revenge on the people for its defeat in the 12-day war. These death sentences are a stark warning to all of us engaged in the struggle against the regime. But we can regroup, organize, and launch a comprehensive counter-offensive against the Islamic regime’s executioners.
The people have shown they have the power to mount large-scale resistance against the bloodthirsty rulers of Iran. In these suffocating days—when the regime’s killing machine is fully operational—we must remind ourselves and everyone around us that we are a powerful force. We have, time and again, challenged the Islamic Republic’s apparatus of violence through nationwide, heroic uprisings that have shaken the regime to its core.
Let us not forget: these executioners are weaker than ever. During those 12 days, when some of the regime’s most despised commanders met their end and its feeble leader went into hiding for 22 days to avoid an internal assassination attempt, the regime exposed its fragility and impotence.
We, the people, need more organizations, institutions, and movements to strengthen our struggle for the overthrow of the Islamic Republic. Iranian society stands firmly against this decrepit regime. This immense social force can and must be mobilized and organized. Wherever there is evidence of state crimes, we must be the flame that fuels resistance.
Today it is the death sentence for these five revolutionaries. Tomorrow it will be protests over livelihoods and welfare. The day after, another cause will rise. In every battleground, we must remain present, loud, and determined. And let us remember: we need a central command to lead this all-out war against the Islamic Republic. Choose the party of revolution, freedom, and equality. No battle ever reaches victory without leadership.
