Ghorbanali Dorri-Najafabadi, Supreme Leader Khamenei’s representative in Iran’s Markazi Province, commented on the recent 12-day war between Israel and the Islamic Republic: “This is neither war nor a ceasefire; only the bombings have stopped.”
Let us not forget Dorri-Najafabadi’s record: he served as Minister of Intelligence during President Khatami’s administration. He resigned in February 1999, following the exposure of the so-called Chain Murders – the killings of several dissidents, writers and intellectuals by the security service.
The Islamic Republic desperately needs to cultivate a collective psychological state of “neither war nor peace.” This ambiguous atmosphere allows it to erect military checkpoints, even with heavy DShK machine guns, keeping the public fixated on a wartime mindset. At the same time, the regime wants to hide the fact that it has begged—through every possible channel—for an end to the confrontation with Israel.
Dorri-Najafabadi has urged citizens to “remain calm” and not let Israeli threats “strain their lives.” But this, too, is part of the Islamic Republic’s psychological warfare against its own people. We all know the true cause of hardship: the regime itself. Power outages, water shortages, poverty and hyperinflation are not Israel’s doing—they are woven into the fabric of the Islamic Republic. In this “no war, no peace” scenario, the regime aims to squash mass protests and strikes by militarising society and framing any dissent as collaboration with Israel.
Never before has poverty and misery been this widespread and entrenched. With each passing day that this gang of thugs remains in power, hunger, repression, and executions become ever more pervasive. The only viable response is a broad-based social war—one that aims to topple the Islamic Republic altogether. A war to end all wars, in pursuit of a free, equal, and humane society.
