In a meeting in Hormozgan province, Pezeshkian told officials from the education ministry: “Imagine we were not here – what would you do for your children’s education and the improvement of your city? ”
If you were not there, everything would fall into place. The problem is only you. The very first step would be to confiscate the wealth amassed over decades by ayatollahs, their children, and the billionaire elite in power. We would put an end to your theft and corruption, halt the billions you funnel into religion, repression, surveillance, proxy wars, nuclear and missile projects, and instead direct these resources to education – rescuing children deprived of schooling, ensuring teachers’ welfare, building safe schools, and providing quality education. Every pupil would receive a free daily meal.
If you were not there, we would put an end to the commodification of education. Clerics and regime-loyal managers would be expelled from schools. Ideological indoctrination, religious dogma, and government propaganda would be removed from textbooks, replaced with the highest scientific and cultural achievements of humanity.
If you were not there, gender segregation in schools would end. We would ban the veiling of children, allocate space for sport, dance and music, organise educational and cultural excursions, and build a system that is joyful, scientific, creative and equal, offering the same opportunities to every child across the country.
If you were not there, children would no longer be punished, humiliated or brainwashed. Instead, they would learn to think critically, to question, to be independent, to trust themselves and to accept responsibility. We would establish a new structure in education where students and teachers themselves are the best organisers.
If your thieving, reactionary government were not there, the parasitic minority clinging to the nation’s wealth would be stripped of their grip on society’s economy. Wage slavery would be abolished. Religion would be barred from interfering in people’s lives. The machinery of torture, prisons, executions and your medieval laws would be dismantled. And within a short period, we would build a society that is prosperous, free, equal and joyful – open to the world, at peace with western and non-western governments alike.
That is the very aim of our revolution. There are no “ifs” or “buts”. We will bring you down and, with our own hands and through the active participation of every decent citizen in this country, create the freest, happiest and most prosperous society.
